It’s Thyme 2 Get Cooking!

Our healthy hands-on cooking classes will empower and help you become more confident and creative in the kitchen.  You don’t have to be a culinary master to be healthy!   Nutrition isn’t about being perfect.  It’s about setting ourselves and our kids up to win by making lots of small, positive choices.  We CAN teach cooks of all ages to make good food choices.  We CAN inspire others with simple, healthy lessons and tools by providing delicious, fun and interactive lessons to demonstrate healthy cooking.  Adults and kids will learn simple, healthful concepts that can be used at home.  We use whole ingredients and simple appliances.

Lil Sprouts “Parent/Grandparent & Me” Cooking Classes Ages 2-5
Venue: Vandalia Senior Center, 21 South Tionda Drive, Vandalia, OH

Sat Feb 23/19 (10-11am) Snack Attack –  Everybody LOVES snack time but some snacks are better than others for our bodies.  The children will identify healthy options for snack time and then make their own healthy Banana Yogurt Parfait. (Class Code 110006-01)

Sat Apr 6/19 (10-11am) Colors on My Plate – Children will be able to name certain fruits and vegetables based on colors.  They will property identify colors and explain that we eat fruits and vegetables to keep our bodies healthy.  They will understand that food comes in many colors.  Each child will make their own Rainbow Fruit Salad.  (Class Code 110006-02)

Thu Feb 14/19 (6-8pm) Heart Healthy Cooking – The foods we eat can have a huge effect on keeping our hearts healthy. Students will learn to make healthy food choices with a menu planning activity and then learn to make some heart-healthy recipes (Class Code 110007-01)

Thu Mar 14/19 (6-8pm) “Pi” Day Celebration – Who doesn’t love pie?  Desserts can be full of sugar and unhealthy ingredients.  But did you know that you can have your pie and eat it too?  Learn how to make yummy and healthy desserts using wholesome, natural ingredients.  (Class Code 110007-02)

Thu Apr 25/19 (6-8pm) Mama Mia Thatsa Pasta! – Pasta is a great addition to any healthy diet and is versatile, tastes great, and is easy to cook. Some pastas are healthier than others, and we’ll learn about different types to choose from, and proper portion sizes. We’ll learn to cook with a variety of pastas and sample different tastes and textures.  (Class Code 110007-03)

Sun April 7/19 (3:30-5pm) What’s So Great About Eggs? – This class focuses on the nutritional benefits of cooking with eggs.  Kids will have fun learning why eggs are healthy for the body, and then enjoy learning to make some fun and easy egg recipes in class.

Tue Feb 5/19 (6-8pm) Spaghetti Squash Skinny Alfredo – Alfredo gets a facelift!  Hop on the spaghetti squash bandwagon while we roast spaghetti squash and fill with pan-seared chicken topped with a roux-based alfredo sauce and fresh basil.  Served with a side romaine salad with a homemade creamy balsamic dressing.  This is a savory dish that does not disappoint!

Tue Mar 5/19 (6-8pm) Mini Meatloaf with Mashed Cauliflower  – Comfort food with a twist!  Together we will prepare mini gluten-free meatloaves made with ground beef, brown-rice panko, garlic and spices.  Instead of serving with the traditional mashed potatoes, here is where the twist comes in…a tangy horseradish mashed cauliflower served with a side of mixed greens and avocado cream dressing. (Class Code 110013-02)

Thu Apr 11/19 (6-8pm) Naked Bruschetta Turkey Burger – Don’t worry…it’s not what you think.  It’s even better!  We will be making a bun-less (aka naked) turkey burger topped with a mound of delicious homemade bruschetta and a side of grilled zucchini surfboards.  Pita chips will be served for scooping extra bruschetta.  Your taste buds will thank you! Healthy Adult Cooking Classes Ages 18+

Tue April 30/19 (6-8pm) Spaghetti Squash Lasagna – In this class, we will enjoy the rich lasagna flavor but with a fraction of the guilt!  Spaghetti Squash halves become a vessel for this low-carb “lasagna” layered with crushed tomatoes, ground fennel sausage, spaghetti squash, and a little ricotta mixture.  A must try to satisfy your pasta cravings!  Pair this with a side romaine salad and a homemade creamy balsamic dressing and VOILA!

Tue June 25/19 (6-8pm) – Fish Tacos with Red Cabbage Slaw –  There’s no need for deep-fried fish when these fish tacos are so tasty and fresh!  We will complement these fish tacos with a red cabbage slaw with honey-lime dressing and for a touch of spice, a sriracha-yogurt drizzle.  Add to that a side of garlic black beans and you have will have one satisfied stomach!

Thu July 25/19 (6-8pm) – Spicy Black Bean Burgers and Chipotle Pepper Sweet Potatoe Fries – Here is a match made in heaven….we will make slightly spicy, handmade black bean patties that are loaded with flavor and topped with all the fixings!  Served with a side of oven-roasted sweet potatoes dusted with chipotle pepper powder and a side of homemade Ranch dressing for dipping!

Thu August 8/19 (6-8pm) – Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps with Corn & Black Bean Salad  Who doesn’t love buffalo chicken, right?  Here’s our twist on this favorite!  We combine a tasty homemade buffalo sauce with shredded chicken and top our lettuce wraps with celery, red onion, carrots and blue cheese (optional).  We pair our wraps with a corn, red pepper & black bean salad.
